I’m a big fan of this song, but I didn’t like the “good vibrations” line. Seemed a bit cheesy and unfitting to me. I suppose everyone has their own tastes. My favorite thing about the song is that it combines so many different cultural styles and instruments, something that isn’t done very often.
But when I heard this song, I immediately pulled out my dusty old Veena and learned the Veena solo by Rajhesh Vaidhya.
Yes, the line is cheesy BUT Tula, the Israeli girl and Clarence Bekker, the Dutch guy with dreadlocks, sing the refrain with such feeling and happy abandon, you just have to love it. When they sing there’s no self-consciousness at all. They didn’t care about what’s cool and what’s cheesy. And that’s what I like. It’s like the classic jazz tunes, full of cheesy lines that would have fallen completely flat if not for the marvelous way it was sung. This is also such a wonderful positive happy song.
Impressive too that you play the Veena! Cool. Any videos to share?
